Craiova Christmas Market 2026
The Land of the Elves, 13 November 2026 – 3 January 2027. Voted the best Christmas market in Europe.
Every November, more than two million lights switch on at once and the centre of Craiova becomes a fairy tale.
In November 2025 Craiova won the European Best Destinations vote for the best Christmas market in Europe, with more than 142,000 votes from over 140 countries: the most voted Christmas destination in the history of the competition.
The 2026 edition: the Land of the Elves
This year the market becomes the secret workshop where every Christmas gift is made, with a Christmas tree carrying a little train of presents and a maze inspired by the elves' toy workshop. The market is larger than in 2025.
Highlights from past editions
- Santa's flying sleigh above Mihai Viteazul Square (2024 and 2025).
- A 40-metre Ferris wheel on the esplanade of the National Theatre, first installed in 2023.
- An ice rink under the big Christmas tree.
- Decorated wooden huts with mulled wine, sweets and handmade gifts.
Getting there
Craiova has an international airport and a central railway station. In 2025, city buses 8 and 9 linked the parking areas near the airport with the market. The centre is pedestrian-friendly: the best way to see the market is on foot.
Opening hours
Daily hours for 2026 will be announced before the opening. For reference, in 2025 the market was open Monday to Thursday 13:00–22:00 and Friday to Sunday 10:00–23:00.

From Friday 13 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027.
Is entry free?
Yes, entry to the market is free. Some attractions, such as the ice rink or the Ferris wheel, have had separate tickets in past editions.
